Geometric Boxes

Featurecraft's Geometric Boxes are designed to fulfil the human desire for environmental texture and complexity, providing a fashionable alternative to the static drop ceilings that dominate modern architecture in New Zealand. Available in two styles – square and side taper – with custom shapes fashioned upon request, these three-dimensional (3D) ceiling boxes truly are the most versatile building block for a feature box ceiling.

Built from a composite core of plywood and MDF, the Geometric Box is a sturdy and long-lasting decorative system that still captures the delicate look of natural timber. Ceiling boxes can be customised in a multitude of ways: through selection of box shapes, sizes, and spacing, through application of timber stains, timber veneers, or HPL/Melamine veneers, through acoustic perforations on the ceiling box face, and through selection of coloured polyester ceiling box backings.

FAQs

1) What are Geometric Boxes in ceiling design?

Geometric Boxes are 3D drop-ceiling modules that transform standard flat ceilings into sculptural features. This product range, inspired by the latest architectural trends across the globe, enables you to create depth, shadow, and visual rhythm in your space.

2) Do Geometric Box ceilings improve acoustics?

Yes. Geometric boxes are manufactured with acoustic perforations and polyester backing to absorb sound effectively. When combined with an overhead acoustic blanket, the system can reach NRC ratings up to 0.95, significantly reducing echo and reverberation. This makes our geometric boxes ideal for lobbies, education spaces, commercial offices, or any environment where controlling noise is just as important as achieving an impressive architectural ceiling feature.

3) Are Featurecraft’s Geometric Boxes fire-rated for code compliance?

They are. Each Geometric Box is made from fire retardant plywood and MDF and achieves a Group 1S fire rating, the highest possible level for interior linings in New Zealand. This ensures full code compliance without the requirement for any extra coatings or treatments.

4) What customisation options do Geometric Boxes offer?

Geometric Boxes offer extensive design flexibility. Choose between Square or Side Taper profiles, or request custom shapes for unique patterns. Modules can be sized for 600×600mm or 900×900mm grids, with various depths available to create subtle or dramatic drops. Finishes include real timber veneer, HPL, or melamine, with optional stains and coloured acoustic backings. This allows complete control over tone, texture, and visual impact.

5) How are Geometric Box ceiling tiles installed?

Installation is straightforward. Each module sits within a three-part aluminium channel system with spacer bars for perfect alignment. Installers fix the channels to the suspended ceiling grid, then drop the boxes into place where they clip securely. The system creates a flush, integrated appearance and remains demountable for access to building services when needed, making it both practical and visually impressive.

6) What are Geometric Boxes made of, and are they sustainable?

Geometric Boxes are made from a fire-rated plywood and MDF composite, providing durability while retaining a premium timber look. Materials can be supplied with FSC® or PEFC certification, supporting responsible forestry, and the geometric box system contributes to Green Star and Homestar ratings. This makes Geometric Boxes a sustainable choice that combines striking design with strong environmental credentials.
