Interior plywood timber panelling has been popular in New Zealand since the 18th century, but recent advancements in technology have radically changed the way we approach this design. As well as being decorative, plywood timber panels are highly functional and can shape the way an environment is used. For instance, Featurecraft’s Plywood Timber Panels can be perforated and fitted with felt backing for acoustic enhancement.
Acoustic panels come in a wide range of designs – we offer grooved plywood panelling, slotted plywood panels, holes in various configurations, and specialised geometric patterns. This is product evolution in action: the simple plywood panel has taken on many new aspects of functionality.

Featurecraft also offers Plywood Panels in a series of timber species, with many options for aesthetic customisations, including natural finishes, timber stains, and HPL and melamine finishes. The customisability of this product ensures a high level of creative flexibility for architects and designers. Furthermore, the option of HPL and melamine finishes means that these panels can be used even in hygiene-sensitive, high-impact or high-traffic environments where timber would usually not be a viable option.
To ensure sustainability in the use of decorative plywood timber panelling in NZ, Featurecraft has achieved FSC® and PEFC™ certifications for its Plywood Timber Panels.
All of our interior plywood timber panelling is finished in our Hawke’s Bay factory, enabling a high level of quality control and personalised craftsmanship. We are committed to achieving a positive impact with our Plywood Panels, not only through environmental consideration, but also by manufacturing highly durable products that will reduce the need for replacement of parts over time. Using Plywood Panels in NZ should always be this straightforward and hassle-free.

1) Can I use plywood panels for ceilings and wall linings (interior and soffits)?
Yes. Our decorative plywood panels are engineered for interior walls and ceilings, and suitable for exterior soffits. They arrive pre‑finished or unfinished and can be customised with stains, veneers, perforations, and custom offerings. Enquire for project‑specific advice or download the technical data sheet.
2) What fire rating do your plywood panels achieve?
Standard plywood panels achieve a Group 3 (NZ) fire rating. For environments that require a higher rating, we use a factory-applied intumescent coating to achieve Group 1-S (NZ). We also support your specification process by providing supporting documentation for our plywood panels, including technical data sheets and fire test summaries.
3) Do you offer acoustic plywood panels?
Yes. We offer perforated plywood acoustic panels fitted with a 1mm felt backing available in various colours. For maximum acoustic performance, we recommend installing plywood panels over a 20-100 mm acoustic blanket. Depending on pattern and build‑up, NRC values up to ~0.95 are achievable. Explore our Acoustic Perforations library to select patterns, coverage and target NRC, or talk to our team about custom perforations.
4) What sheet sizes and thicknesses are available?
Our standard sizes are 2400 x 1200mm, 2700 x 1200mm, and 3000 x 1200mm, with thicknesses ranging from 6-18mm. Our team will work with you to optimise our plywood panels for your environment, helping you to explore options such as custom sizing and curvable panels.
5) Are HPL options available for hygiene‑sensitive and high-traffic areas?
Absolutely. We can supply plywood panels with HPL veneers for durable, easy‑clean surfaces in schools, healthcare and high‑traffic environments, without losing the timber aesthetic. View the HPL palette or ask us to colour‑match to your scheme.
6) How are plywood panels installed - and do you provide guides/Revit?
Our plywood panels can be installed using a face fix, concealed fix or adhesive fix methodology, depending on your substrate and desired visual aesthetic. Our Resource Library includes installation guides, Revit families for wall/ceiling panels, warranties and more. If you need something specific, we create complimentary resources and custom drawings.
